Evidently I was influenced by it though... in second grade, my babysitter took my mom aside and had a big talk with her about the fact that I was really into drawing swords, maces, and the like. That one small, innocuous cardboard box that contained "everything needed" to play the game? Then came the DM Guide, the Player's Guide, and before you knew it all sorts of guides and gadgets and figures and...but somehow. the paper, pencil, dice and a calculator version of the game remains my very favorite. Through the exercise of the imaginations of the world's geeks and nerds, Mr. Gygax helped open the world to so much more than it was, and will continue to lead it to be more than it is. I really don't think there will ever be a way to quantify the impact this seemingly simple game concept has had or will have on the world we know. Remember that first edition of the game?
